How to Make Alfredo Sauce with Cottage Cheese in 3 Easy Steps

1. Creamy Alfredo Delight

Everyone loves a deliciously creamy alfredo sauce, whether it’s smothered on pasta, spread as an alternative to tomato sauce on pizza, or even drizzled over roasted veg to give your dish that extra little something!

Of course, most of us don’t eat alfredo sauce quite as much as we would like. After all, as it’s traditionally made from thickened cream, it’s not the healthiest of options. Yet the good news is that with a clever health twist, you can have your alfredo sauce and eat it. Just keep reading to find out how to make a homemade alfredo sauce with cottage cheese.

2. Easy Homemade Recipe

Traditionally an alfredo sauce recipe contains the following ingredients:

Serves 4

  • 300ml thickened cream
  • 4 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 25g butter
  • 1/3 cup finely grated parmesan cheese or vegetarian hard cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley leaves

3. Cottage Cheese Twist

In the recipe above you can see that there are some incredibly fatty ingredients, including a lot of thickened cream and some butter in this type of alfredo recipe. This of course makes it much more suitable for specific occasions and the occasional treat rather than as a regular meal on your weekly dinner plan.

However, the good news is that if you just can’t get enough of the scrumptious alfredo sauce taste, there is a way to make it much healthier. What we are talking about here is adding a clever twist to the recipe by replacing the thickened cream with cottage cheese. The genius of alfredo sauce with your favourite type of cottage cheese is that you still get that creamy texture and yummy flavour, just with a fraction of the fat of the original recipe! Keep reading for the recipe.

4. Delectable White Sauce

The best cottage cheese alfredo recipe is:

Serves 4

  • 240 ml low-fat milk
  • 112g Brancourts cottage cheese
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • â…› teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 45g Parmesan cheese (you can use low fat to make it even healthier)
  • Dried herbs to taste such as oregano or basil.
  • 2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley leaves

Step 1:

Leaving out the dried herbs, add all the ingredients to a food processor and blend until smooth. This is a crucial step as it will make sure your white sauce with cottage cheese comes out creamy and smooth.

Step 2:

Add the blended mixture to a saucepan. Season to taste with the dried herbs of your choice. Use medium to low heat to thoroughly heat the mixture through.

Step 3:

Allo your alfredo sauce to cook on low for around 5 mins. Be sure to stir it so it does not burn. Then you are ready to serve with pasta, pizza, veggies or whatever other dishes you want to liven up.

5. Alfredo with a Healthy Twist

You can see that instead of the butter and thickened cream, this alfredo with cottage cheese recipe calls for low-fat milk and cottage cheese. This ensures you get the most delicious creamy taste and texture with only a fraction of the fat. Allowing you to enjoy alfredo sauce whenever you want it!
